Autumn Cooking.

Food.

I am a foodie kinda person. I love to bake, cook and best of all EAT all kinds of food. Some would say I am not a fussy eater...I rarely turn my nose up at anything and am open to trying new things.

I do have one 'rule' or 'thing' about food. It is that certain foods are eaten at certain times of year...weird right?! I couldn't eat a steaming hot pot roast in the middle of Summer, nor could I eat a light salad on a bleak mid winters night.

It just doesn't seem right.

When I think of Autumn / Winter food I think of COMFORT. There is nothing like coming in from the harsh chill and being welcomed with a tasty casserole or soup...OR a Cinnamon and Banana Muffin!!

Cinnamon is an ingredient that takes you places...for me that place is Christmas.  Cinnamon is so heart warming and will leave a lovely lingering smell around your house...pure yumminess!

You will need :

  • 225g/8oz self-raising flour, sieved
  • 100g/4oz light muscovado sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2-3 Bananas (depending on your taste)
  • 1 rounded teaspoon baking powder
  • 125ml/4fl oz milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 50g/2oz butter, melted
  • Muffin Cases
Method:

Preheat the oven to 200oC/400oF/Gas 6.

In one bowl add the eggs, sugar and milk. Once the butter has melted and cooled down, slowly mix it in (so it doesn't curdle).

Weigh out the flour, baking powder and cinnamon and sieve it into the bowl, folding the mixture slowly. Finally, peel and mash the bananas until you have a smooth consistency (there may be a few lumps still). Add them to the mixture, folding it again so it's properly mixed in.

Distribute evenly among the muffin cases and bake for about 15 minutes or until a knife comes out clean with put in the middle.

Served best with a LARGE mug of Coffee....

I hope your Thursday is going well for you...just remember it's Friday tomorrow!!

That should keep you going! If not then maybe these muffins will : )

I love you all and thank you for reading.

I'm so glad it is Friday!!!!

It's been quite a shock to the system working Monday - Friday..getting up every morning going to the same darn place.

I feel as if i'm slowly getting used to it though. I just think to myself..millions of people do this everyday..some ALL DAY EVERYDAY..7 days a week...I'm blessed to not have to do that.

Hopefully this weekend will be a constructive, slow and relaxing one. A loose plan on what I hope to do are:

* Give the Skirting boards in my bedroom a second coat (you should see the mess in my bedroom at the moment..it's driving me mad!)
* Fabric window shopping...I'm in need of some inspiration to start some new & exciting designs.
* Tester paint shopping for a new project...(always fun!!)
* A long stroll in a leafy park / woodland...
* Cosy up with Ian whilst watching X factor on Saturday night... : )

Thats what I 'plan' on doing anyway...it will probably be the complete opposite lol.

What are your plans?

I love you all and thank you so much for reading.I hope you have a great & restfull weekend...you deserve it after all!!!

Signs of Autumn...

I look around and I'm seeing signs of Autumn everywhere...and I'm loving every minute of it!! All of our Autumn decorations have made their way out of the cupboards and are throughout the house.

Some of the decor is shop bought, a lot of it from our last trip to America...

From Ikea

From Target

From Target (needs a tea light!!)

Candle stick from Target , Candle from a Garden Centre

And some of it is more natural...in other words mostly...FREE!! A word that many of us like : )

You can really add a touch of Autumn/Winter to your home by salvaging a few bits from your garden or local park. Find some conkers and arrange them in a pretty shallow bowl with a few cinnamon sticks, your house will smell divine!!

Find a few crunchy golden leaves to display here and there.

Search for a few mini pumpkins in your local supermarket (super cheap!)....they would look great lined up along your mantle piece or a side board : )

These are just a few key ideas to spruce up your home and make it feel a little more like Autumn/Fall.

Leaf mat from Walmart

I hope ya'll share the same passion as I do..if not then you may think I am a little loopy..heehee!!

All these colours and smells just makes everything seem a little more cosy.

Our heating is officially on now until the mercury decides to rise again at some point next year. The mornings are beginning to feel fresher and apple crisp...The sun is still shining high in the sky though which is always nice.

It is dark by 8pm here..the evenings are a little more bitter and you can begin to see your breath more and more clearly as the days are passing by. It's crazy to think in just a few weeks our cheeks will be rosy and coats 'n' boots will be an everyday necessity!

I hope to discover new hearty recipes that will warm our tummies after long walks on crisp days....ahhh!! Any excuse to bake : )

Thank you for reading...love you all.

Weekends.

Hi all : )

I can't believe it is the end of Thursday already...the days are flying by and I don't know if it is a good thing or not?

I admit I always want Friday to arrive sooner rather than later these days. I love the weekend - It's nice to be able to say you have 'nothing' to do if you wanted to do nothing.. you have nowhere to be..no one waiting on you at work etc.

On most weekends I tend to try and take in every last second of it. I try (but most of the time don't) to get up earlyish and sleep latish...stretch the day out for as long as I can.

Sometimes Ian and I struggle to think of things to do..we want to feel like we've 'accomplished' something or been somewhere...Sometimes we spend more time on thinking up what to do than actually doing it!!!!

So my question to you is...WHAT DO YOU DO ON THE WEEKEND?

Whether it be gardening, shopping, bar hoping, nothing, golf...anything! Some ideas on what we can do this weekend would be MUCH appreciated!

Settling in.

For those of you that don't know I just strarted my new job at a local pre-school!!

I've been dreading this transition of being out of work for a while to working 5 days a week...but to be honest it is REALLY NOT BAD!

I get there at 8:30 am..the children arrive at 9 and leave at 1...and i'm usually out by 1:30...great stuff !! It's really convienient as it lets me get on with any cushion orders I have in the afternoon.

So far so good.

I think it will take me a while to know if working with children is something I want to do as a career. A few girls there have taken to me and follow me everywhere! It is sweet but as you can imagine it gets a little annoying after a few hour...am I mean for thinking that?

There is one particular woman there though who I haven't taken to..she seems to raise her voice for any apparent reason and generally seems rude to everyone...there is someone like that everywhere though isn't there?

My plan is to just ignore her as much as possible lol.

*******************************************

I got myself into a bit of an awkward situation earlier. After explaining my nut allergy to the staff, they asked lots of questions like....'What kind of biscuits can you have?'..or 'Do you only stick to English/ American restaurants then?'

This one lady asked 'Do you make your own homebaked food then?...yes!' I answered. She then said ' I'm baking stuff tonight so I will bring something in for you tomorrow'.

A VERY sweet thought but I have to be REALLY  careful with what I have. I check all ingredients. I get extra paranoid when eating around others homes as I hate to be a nuisence and ask to see all packaging etc...but it's something that has to be done!   It is my life that is at risk after all.

So now my dilemma is what do I say when she arrives with food for me?! Help!!!! I'm going to say that I will eat it after my lunch when I go home but I don't want to seem rude....

ERGH.

I've been busy making some Xmas goodies : )

I hope you like them : ) For some reason the material looks a little liney in pictures.

If you like the look of them then take a peek in my Etsy store.

If you want some of this cushion action then contact me for a little discount  : )

Anyway it's nearly 11pm...I'm now going to tuck into a big mug of tea and watch some TV with Mr Handsome!

Love you all : )

Happy September!

Welcome September!

Although I am feeling a bit apprehensive about starting my job soon..I'm quite happy that September has finally arrived.

If you didn't know already...I love Autumn!

I enjoy Summer but we had a pretty lousy one this year. It hasn't been hot at all..in fact it has rained A LOT!..we've had barely any BBQ's because of this and only a few nice evenings where we have lazed around outside.

This time last year I was in Florida..soaking up the sun and loving the heat! Now I'm just looking forward to the crisp, bleak days...weird isn't it?

With Summer life is very outdoorsy. During Autumn and Winter life is takes place indoors...mostly at  Home!!

I love Autumn...did I mention that already?!

I love it when the leaves become crisp and fall to the ground. I love the array of reds, browns and oranges scattered down the street. I love the 'Cruch' noise....it's the simple things right?

I love the feeling of relief when you walk through your door into Home after a long day, flick the kettle on and laze in front of the fire...you appreciate Home just that little bit more don't you?

Hot dinners and desserts are a MUST!

YUM : )

I love wrapping up warm and layering with cardigans.

Fashion is so much nicer in the colder months. Calf high boots..Comfy socks...Cute Hats..Knitted scarves...Beautiful Coats.

(Found on Fashion Beans)

It's always nice to take down and put away the 'Summer Accessories' in your Home and replacing them with the Autumn ones...whilst something with Apples and Cinammon is Baking and Bubbling away in the oven : )

And the BEST bit is knowing that the festive season is ONLY around the corner...very exciting stuff!!!!

I have to admit I'm not skipping the Christmas songs on my Ipod at the moment. Are you listening to any Christmas music yet? Do you think I'm crazy for not skipping it on my Ipod...? Probably!

Do you love or hate Autumn?

Roughly when do you start to change the decor in your home from Summer to Autumn?

Love you all : )
