The Surprise!

Good Evening! How are you all doing?

I'm excited.

For about a month now we have been conjuring up a plan.

A plan meaning that this weekend is going to be jam packed with productivity!

Ian's parents are away for a while so as a surprise we are buying a new shed and tidying up their 'Veg patch' end of the garden. Ian is taking a few days off to get the old sheds down, level out the lands and to generally clear the area.

On Saturday his whole family are coming over to help. Weeding needs to be done. Wood chip needs to be shoveled. Mugs of Tea need to be made. The new shed has to go up. It's going to be a lot of hard but fun work!

It's been awfully hard keeping it a secret. It seems to be on the tip of my tongue constantly and the shed company accidentally phoned the house phone instead of Ian's mobile. Luckily we got away with it as they are in another country and seem blissfully unaware.

The only thing that can get in our way is the deliveries not turning up on time...or not at all. The wood chip didn't turn up today (apparently they were stuck in traffic)...Ahh...the joys of waiting in for a delivery.

We will be taking lots of pictures so we can show his parents what we did (and of course all of you).

Wish us luck!

Patchwork Quilt

I hope you all had a great weekend....it really flew by...FAST!

For a while now I've been thinking about making my own Patchwork Quilt. I have an image in my head of how I want it to look like. I would like the colours to be soft pinks, creams and possibly light greens.

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time you would know that I really feel the cold. We were at a BBQ yesterday and I had the chills..I just can't avoid it!

I want this quilt to be used on summer evenings and to snuggle up on the sofa on Winter nights. I want my future babies to one day use it to play on. I want it to last a long long time and to used all the time.

So far I have found two fabrics I would like to use. I need to find a plain cream fabric plus two other patterned ones.

I have my eye on the fabric below....

It's a paisley pattern & I think it adds a 'fun floral' to the mix...plus it has such a lovely shade of green in the background.

Do you have an heirloom quilt in the family? Have you ever made a patchwork quilt?

Enjoy the rest of your Monday!

Birkenstock Sandals Review

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to give an honest review of a pair of Birkenstock 'madrid' sandals from Nature Shop.....VERY LUCKY!

I'm going to give my opinion on the positives & negatives of the Sandals.

* I always find it hard to come across a good pair of shoes...especially Sandals. I was pleasantly surprised by how well fitting  these sandals are. There is an actual 'unique structure' that supports your feet and helps with your posture.

* I usually get cramp in my toes from walking in sandals with poor support. I found that the 'toe gripper' helped me walk normally as my toes weren't doing all the work to hold onto the sandal.

*I am a size 5 and found the size 5 fitted perfectly.

*The 'madrid' sandal comes in an array of colours. However the white sandal will go with almost any outfit so it is very versatile.

{All pictures sourced from Google Images}

*The Sandal has an adjustable strap so you can adjust it to the width of your feet.

* The only negative I can think of about these sandals is that because of the style of them, they are a little bit difficult to walk in when you go upstairs.

Apart from that I love them!

Overall I found these Sandals fabulous. They will go with all my clothes and allow me to walk confidently this summer!

Thank you Nature Shop!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend wherever you may be  : )

My favourite 'quick' dessert!

Good morning!

How are you?

Today I'm feeling happy. It's been a bit grey and overcast recently...and then a bit rainy and wet.

Today it's bright sunny and fresh...just the way I like it.

Do you find the weather has a huge influence over your mood?

As it's getting a smidge warmer and brighter this weekend, it seems that some kind of BBQ / Bonfire / Get together is in order.

Something I really enjoy eating during these kind of events is this quick flan..

 It's light...

And Oh So Summery.

You can add any of your favourite fruits. Pour over the gelatin mix. Refrigerate. Serve.

Sooo good!

Another quick 'throw together' dessert I enjoy is Eton Mess. - check it out!

Do you have any favourite 'quick' desserts?

I'd love to try something new : )

In the garden

Good Afternoon Ladies...

I don't know if it affected you at all but the Blogger crash the other day deleted all the lovely comments from you in my previous post.....annoying isn't it?

Over the past weekend I had a good look around the garden and took a few random pictures.

I love the contrast of the gold against the white.

Flowers are so special. Each one is different...the shade of colour...the shape.

We discovered something odd on the herb planter....

I really hate spiders....big ones especially.

Luckily these ones were literally tiny baby spiders so I felt okay getting up close and personal with my camera.

Nature can be weirdly beautiful sometimes can't it?

I still find them awfully creepy though!

The Book Shelf

Have you got a piece of furniture that has been waiting to be put up for months and months and months?

Well I did....
I needed a shelf for my bedroom that didn't cost the earth...after all it's merely a plank of wood being held up.

I spotted two black shelf brackets in the discount section in IKEA for 99p each. I had a plank of wood for the shelf already. I painted the wood with paint we already had and bought some cream spray paint in the bank holiday sales.

I'm loving how the books add a touch of colour to my room.

I also love how at a glance you can tell what type of person I am from the book I read.

My hobbies.

My interests

My ways of escaping.

In all honesty I think I need to read A LOT more! I'm on the same book that I was a month or so back...it is terrible.

How often do you read?

What kind of books do you read?

When it comes to fiction books I can't resist a good romance.

Anyway having the bookshelf up means another corner of my bedroom is complete. I'm really sorry I haven't showed you the make-over sooner....life can sometimes take over and decorating sometimes takes the back burner for a while!

I hope you are having a great Wednesday wherever you may be : )

Apple, Pear, Plum, Cherry...

Hi Girlies...

Happy Thursday...we are almost there : )

A month or two back Ian's parents ordered some fruit trees from a company advertised in a magazine. There was an offer where you got a free Cherry Tree when you order 4 other trees.

They ordered 10 trees in total...5 for themselves...and 5 for his Aunts Birthday.

A few weeks went by but the trees hadn't turned up and of course it was nearing the birthday. They phoned up the company...their excuse was that the address they had was wrong.

The trees were re-ordered at no extra cost.

Another week had passed and no trees & at this point the birthday had come and gone. The companies excuse this time was that the delivery company 'lost the order'. As you can imagine Ian's parents were quite upset. It should of arrived weeks ago.

YET AGAIN....The trees were re-ordered at no extra cost.

A few days later ...some trees turned up!!! We assumed the company got their act together and dispatched the second order quickly.

It was the first order....AND...
....A week or so after that some more trees turned up...YAY...FREE TREES : )

As the company messed them around so much they decided not to return the second lot of trees and gave them to Ian & I!

We have an eating apple, cooking apple , plum, cherry and pear tree.

For now we are keeping them here (at my house) and hopefully one day we will have a garden of our own large enough to store them!

It's step move towards a self-sufficient life!

Last of the long weekends...part 2.

We had a fabulous day out in the sunshine (and wind!).

After a visit to a Garden Center we headed out to a lovely quaint little pub. I've been there a few times but the sunshine 'opened' my eyes.

The pub sits in front of a beautiful green. If you look closely you can see brightly coloured bunting around the perimeter of the grass...I reckon it was left from St.Georges Day or the Royal Wedding.

Just by the pub is a tranquil pond with a few ducks...the perfect place for a picnic.

As it was such a perfect day we all reckoned the pub garden would be jam packed...it was so nice that it SHOULD OF BEEN JAM PACKED!!

It was empty...literally...we were so lucky.

Sun, a packet of crisps and an ice cold Pepsi is all I need to keep me happy in a pub garden.

After the pub we had a little walk around the quiet village and I fell in love.

Little cottages covered in Wisteria lined the roads.

Flowers everywhere.
You can imagine people from the village gathering on the green for their annual BBQs....everyone knows eachother...everyone helps out one another.
You could feel a sense of community in the air.....it was all really lovely.

It is somewhere where Ian & I can dream of living...somewhere similar.....maybe one day.

Last of the long weekends..Part 1

The last of the long weekends have ended. I really could of gotten used to a 4 day weekend!

The past weekend was full of highs and lows.

The Royal Wedding! Eek...it was fantastic.

I woke up at 8am to watch it and stopped when they finally kissed on the balcony. I felt so proud to be British. I'm glad that I was able to see something so special in my lifetime...it was nice to see and feel some unity in this country!

Did you watch it?

You can see how in love they are...it was a day of romance and celebration!

We were lucky AGAIN to get free tickets to Grand Designs Live in London. My grandparents and Uncle came along with Ian and I.

I don't know what it is about my grandparents but they literally LOVE free samples...seriously.

We managed to get a few pots of free paint from the Dulux stall.

I'm using mine for a new project which I will show you all soon : )

Typically...they ended up spending money on lunch BEFORE finding the food stalls...where there were tons of free samples.

We had great fun finding different samples to try and managed to come home with a bag full of different goodies...cleaning products...cereal...'yakult'...plant food.

I think it was like Christmas day for them!

Once we got home we came back to a bit of a headache. A water pipe had burst down the road and had flooded quite badly. We were out of water all day. Luckily we had some juice but going to the toilet was the tricky bit!

The water company had arranged for bottles of water to be dropped off on the street corner at 5pm. We waited till 5.30 before they turned up and it was an utter NIGHTMARE.

You would of thought we hadn't had water in days...not hours. Instead of queuing, local people literally 'rushed' in...pushed..pulled..argued for their bottled water. We were pushed to the back so many times. People took way too much.

Luckily Ian managed to grab some.

We dropped some off to an old lady a few doors down out of kindness but everyone else was being really really selfish.

The worst bit was the water came back on a few hours later....hmmm.

Anyway enough from me for now. Check back in tomorrow for part 2!
