I always have a heavy feeling in my tummy when I know Monday is here. I love life but weekends are the best!

We had a busy one but it wasn't hectic. We mostly sat down, ate, drank and tried our very best to keep cool.

On Saturday we popped to a local school fair, did some shopping for a BBQ that evening and then got home. Annoyingly we realised some of the sausages we had bought were out of date...yuk! So it was back to the shops again to swap them for some good ones.

We relaxed for the rest of the day. Friends came over. We had a yummy BBQ. Lit a bonfire and ate a GORGEOUS Brownie Dessert (recipe to follow soon!). We stayed outside till about 12am then headed off to bed.

On Sunday it was HOT. Almost unbearable. Ian & I went to a local park and plonked ourselves down on the grass in the shade. We sat for an hour or so and admired our surroundings. Crazy dogs running away from their owners. Little children throwing Frisbees and nearly hitting my head!

It was my cousins birthday so we headed over to her house for a bit of a family BBQ. Again it was boiling hot and I got a little tanned (yippee!). We sipped on Pimms and enjoyed each others company.

Later that day we met up with some friends for a drink and sat in the evening sun.

Just lovely.

I wish I had some pictures of it all but I didn't even think to take any!

That weekend won't always be in the front of my memory but atleast it's recorded on my little blog...that way I can remember it forever.

Did you have a nice weekend? What did you do?

Hope you have a lovely day : )

Chocolate Covered Flapjacks.

I know this has probably been said a few times now but is it me or does it seem more like October than June?

I'm sat here in my living room and looking out the window all I can see is the last bit of 'bright sky' being engulfed in dark angry looking clouds. The branches of a tree are swaying back and forth and I would bet my bottom dollar that droplets of rain will be pelting against the window in no time.

This type of weather makes me revert towards knitted socks, hot tea and a snuggle with a cosy throw...and maybe a flapjack or two..or three!

I love the normal type of flapjacks so could not resist CHOCOLATE COVERED ONES.

For this recipe you will need:

  • 450g Rolled Oats.
  • 75g  Soft Brown Sugar
  • 300g unsalted Butter
  • 50g Golden Syrup
  • Chocolate Chips

Preheat your oven to 190 C, 375f, gas mark 5.

In a mixing bowl mix the Oats with the Sugar.

Melt the Butter and Golden syrup over a low heat, add Oats and Sugar and mix together.

Press into a tin and bake for 25 mins or until golden brown.

Once out of the oven empty your Chocolate chips over the top and move the chocolate around with a spoon. It should melt really easily.

Pop it into the fridge to set.

Cut into squares and devour!

Inspirations & Wish Lists

I don't know about you but I've been sucked in with the latest online sensation...Pinterest!

I love anything visual.

I can sit analysing pictures for a minute or so, looking at all the detail that has gone into creating that 'image'.

Pinterest is like one big magazine. Full of amazing photographs of amazing things.

I'm using my account as an inspiriation board. It is storing ideas and products that I would love to have in my home and garden one day.

I love this vibrant print...and it's about two things that I love.

(Handz on etsy.com)

I spotted this in Mollie Makes. I love what it stands for.

Funky Flower

Wicker wreath..so cute!

Do any of you have a Pinterest?

You'll be amazed at how quickly your obsessing over it!

Last night we went to see Russell  Howard Live! I was so excited and I just couldn't believe he was standing there in front of us.

Before the show began I said to Ian I didn't want to sit near the front in case he 'picked on us'. You know what I mean, sometimes comedians begin asking all sorts.

We sat about 4-5 rows from the front and I sat next to this young girl (about 14). I noticed she was writing a letter to Russell on a notepad and had put it on stage during the interval. Once he came back on stage, he read out this note which said she had a cake for him! He asked where she was and she began waving her arms about, shouting 'me, me, me'! Everyone turned about and began looking at this girl right next to me....I just shuffled a lot closer towards Ian and hid out of the 'limelight' so to say. Although it wasn't directed at us it was a little embarrassing having hundreds of people look your way! Typical ey?!

Overall we had a fabulous night and my face is still aching from all the laughter!

I hope you all have a great weekend.  Tomorrow we are planning on knocking the extra shed down at Ian's (The baby Robbins have finally fledged..yay!!) Our local middle school is having their summer fate so we may be popping to that too.

Sundays weather is looking a bit blahh so I'm not sure what we are doing then.

What are you doing this weekend?

Grow your own - 2011

Hello Wednesday.

After a weekend of heat and sun we've been hit by a few storms. The rain just keeps on coming.

This being the second year of me 'growing my own' has made me see the huge benefit of rain during the summer months. I used to curse the rain. It ruined our plans for BBQ's or days out in the sun. Nowadays I'm appreciating the rain that falls (mostly in the evening mind you).

The garden is lush and the veg plants are becoming increasingly bigger.

We have signs of growth of Tomatoes...

We've picked Raspberries already.

Our walls are slowly filling up. (They still need to covered in the decking!!)

Sugar snap peas are climbing...

And Strawberries are reddening...

Sometimes I find a headache can instantaneously disappear when I step outdoors, take a deep breath and just listen to the birds sing. It can seem magical.

I hope I don't sound like a looney going on about the outdoors but feeling this way has only really occurred recently.  I've never been an 'outdoorsy' kinda girl and I guess changing my opinion on something I thought I disliked is a big deal in my world.

I'm a convert.

I hope your enjoying your week so far!

'A Surprise' Catch up!

If any of you have been wondering where I have been this past week, I would tell you I've been super busy helping out with the SURPRISE!

Oh My was it hard work.

My legs felt like jelly by the end of last Sunday and I just couldn't close my eyes any quicker when I went to bed. By the end of the long weekend everything was up and ready but there were definitely a few hitches along the way.

Remember when I said -

'The only thing that can get in our way are the deliveries not turning up on time...or not at all.'

After clearing out and knocking down 2 of the 3 old sheds, we hit a wall. We had found a nest in the third shed, full of hatched Robin eggs. We had Robin chicks on our hands! Typically this shed was EXACTLY  where we wanted the new shed to go.

After long thought and discussion with Ian's family we had a great idea. We fixed lengths of wood to the shed and gently moved it like a sedan chair. The moment was tense as the shed wasn't too sturdy and of course the mother & father Robins panicked. After moving it successfully we left the area for a tea break and to allow the Robins to 'find' their babies again.

He just wouldn't keep still!!

On one hand we were happy to not disrupt the birds too much but on the other we now have this 'rustic' (putting it nicely) shed in the corner, waiting to be knocked down once they have fledged.

Anyway, after that it was a matter of levelling the ground, getting the shed up, tidying up, making a wood store and making everything look pretty. It took a lot of time but having a 'work party' with the family made it seem a whole lot better : )

Ian's parents arrived home late Thursday night but we managed to coax them outside to reveal our hard work....and as you can imagine they were OVER THE MOON!  It's so nice once  a surprise is out in the open finally.

Now I would show you the 'after' pictures but I want to wait until the other shed is gone...then I will show you : )

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
