Lemon Cream Pie Recipe

Happy Friday!

Today I wanted to share a recipe with you that I found from the blog Sugar Pie Farmhouse . I made it as a special treat yesterday and it went down really well.

You will need:

* 2 cups of crushed Digestive biscuits / Graham crackers
* 1/4 cup sugar
* 1/2 cup of melted butter
* 3 egg yolks
* 1 can ( 397g / 14oz) of condensed milk
* 1/2 cup of  fresh lemon juice
* Double Cream for whipping.
* A pie dish (We don't have a pie dish so we had to use a flan one instead)

Method:

Firstly make up the base. Crush the biscuits and mix with the sugar and the melted butter. Press into the pie dish and put it into the fridge whilst you make the filling.

Squeeze the lemon juice and strain. Mix with 3 egg yolks and the can of condensed milk. Stir until creamy. Pour the mixture into the pie dish, it will only fill up to half way as the rest will be filled with whipped cream. Bake for 30-35 minutes (or until slightly golden on top)  at 160c, Gas mark 3, 325f.

Cool and place in the fridge for a minimum of three hours. Whip the cream and serve. I had another naughty slice today and it tasted better than yesterday, so you can make this in advance.

It should be deeper than this but I used the wrong dish!

I'm so glad it's Friday. It's been one of those weeks where every morning I wake up, I feel so blah and tired...like I need another 9 hours sleep. A little lie in is needed.

I don't think we'll be doing much this weekend apart from sorting out the veg seeds again. With the petrol shortage I think using the car is a no go. Boo!

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Ruined

I'm quite annoyed at the moment.

I woke up this morning to find that foxes have ruined our veg walls in the garden.

Before we started planting things out, they had dug in the walls. Ian put up a large net on one wall and a 'stick barrier' on the other to try and deter them.

It did not work.

We had Broad Beans & Leeks growing nicely. Carrots, Parsnips, Onions, Broccoli, Sprouts and Cabbages seeds sown and starting to pop up.

I had a look to see if I could salvage anything (hoping to not find poo), but only 2 Broad Bean and Mange Tout plants were saved (luckily no poo).

They have all been destroyed. All the seeds have probably got mixed up, which is going to be so annoying when we get back on track! We'll find Parsnips where the Carrots are meant to be....pain in the arse!

Have Foxes been a problem for you? What do you do to stop them?

This weekends job is to re-sow EVERYTHING, and possibly get a pollytunnel to stop them once and for all. I just hope we haven't missed any time slots for anything.

I totally have a vendetta against foxes now.

: (

Luckily the things they did not touch are doing well.

We have leaves on the Raspberry Canes.

The Daffodils are all lined up nicely, bobbing in the breeze.

And an Apple Tree is blossoming nicely.

Fingers cross the foxes will kindly bugger off   stop visiting!

Happy Wednesday

So far this week...

Things are starting to brighten up around here. The house has been filled with flowers for my mum for mothers day and just because...

Today I happily ate two hot cross buns, toasted with butter, for my lunch with a hot cup of tea. It wouldn't seem right to eat them at any other time of year, so I'm making the most of them now.

I'm going through a phase of loving Greek Salad.

We went to a Greek restaurant a while ago for my cousins birthday. What we ate was so delicious but simple AND  healthy. Seasoned Chicken Shashlik Kebabs, a big bowl of Greek salad and some chips (not so healthy but still good!). It's rare that I will go out to eat and have something healthy..are you the same??

We had another Greek salad with dinner a few days back. It's so good.

It's a mix of Rocket, sliced cherry tomatoes, raw red onion, cucumber, olives, feta cheese and an olive oil dressing.

If you have never tried it, you really should.

My cat came home today looking like this....

A mess.

Who knows where he had been but it must of been adventurous....

-----------

A gave Crochet a go for the first time this week.

This is my failed creation (freebie from Mollie Makes Magazine)....

This isn't what it should look like, but it does look a little flowerish. I think I missed some stitches so couldn't even finish the pattern completely....that's my excuse anyway : )

I'm going to give it another go or maybe do something a little simpler like a Granny Square.

-------------

After reading a lot about this in blog land, I decided to give the 30 day shred a go.
Day 1 - 3, I ached so badly.

I'm on day 6 (I naughtily skipped the weekend) and I can see a difference in my body already without dieting at all.

Before hand I really cannot be bothered, but afterwards you get a real feel good 'high' from it.
Have you tried this before?

Early Weekend & A Great Find

Me & Ian started our weekend early this week. To kick start it, we went to go and see Jimmy Carr last night at a local Arts Centre.

Occasionally they have well known comedians come and do a pre-tour show, where they test out their set to see which jokes people like and people don't (we saw Russel Howard there a few months back). The tickets were fairly cheap, we got to sit quite far upfront and it seemed more intimate than going somewhere like the o2.

It was so funny. I haven't laughed that hard in ages, and I have to say I feel better for it! We will definitely be keeping an eye out for more famous comedians there.

Today we had a relaxing day and went window shopping in the afternoon. I don't think Ian minded as it meant he got to play with the new Ipad 3 at the Apple store.

We happened to pop into Sainsbury's on our way home (after a craving for some grapes!) and I spotted something gorgeous!

These pretty bowls were discounted to £1.99 each. There were plates and mugs included in the range but I thought the bowls would be used more when we get our own place.

The soft pink dots and inner lines are hand painted, so it's a real bargain.

An added bonus is that they go perfectly with the cups I bought a few weeks back...

Happy Friday!!

New Friends

I had the best weekend.

On Sunday, I met some fellow bloggers for the first time! I was nervous as you can imagine and had lots of thoughts running through my head..

what if they don't like me...?
what if we don't recognise each other...?
what if we have nothing in common face to face....?
what if it's super awkward...?

I had nothing to worry about.

We met, introduced ourselves and got along like we had known each other for ages! There was myself and Ian, Gemma from Gem's Country Life Dream , another Gemma from Little Gem's Diary and Juli from Pretty Little Jewels. Everyone was so lovely and easy to talk to.

We firstly went to Liberty London for a look around.

At the entrance was an array of beautiful flowers and plants. The set up was so simple and made you want to buy everything before you even set foot in the shop!

We headed straight to the craft/home floor. There was so many pretty little bits to take in and look at.

We fell in love with the dressers and all the kitchen accessories.

Soon after we went to a little tea room for a bite to eat. The amazing thing about this Tea room is that it is hidden away, above a typical small english pub. We told the bar man we were there for a cream tea, and he directed us behind the bar itself, up these dark winding wooden stairs (it felt like something from Harry Potter!!) and into a light vintage dining room.

There was a mishmash of beautiful tea cups, saucers and tea pots. Each table had beautiful flowers. It was very shabby chic.

We then headed to Soho Square which has a lovely greenery for some photos. Ian was handy to have around to take all our pictures : )

I had such a fun day. It was great to meet girls who around my age and are into the same things as I am! I like to think I made new friends that day : )

Thank you ladies for being so lovely!! Can't wait to do it again.

My Bedroom Make Over Tour

I thought I'd share with you all how my bedroom is now looking after it had a drastic make over.

I had written about it ages ago but it took forever/I kept forgetting/I couldn't be bothered in all honesty!

Now it's spring again I thought I'd make use of the good light and finally share some photos.
For new readers here are a few pictures of getting the room ready...

So stressful!!

My parents were lovely enough to let me have the loft room when it was converted as I was a teenager and I needed some space away from my little sister and brother.

The room was plain white. It didn't really have many decorations or pictures and it needed some personality.

I wanted a wall covered in some Laura Ashley wallpaper and the rest of it painted a warm cream. I wanted little dots of colour and interest around the room to help it feel more cosy.

I made these heart sticks from a tutorial I found on Cherry Menlove. They make me happy.

  More hearts.

Opposite my vintage TV is open floor and a sofa....

I love cushions and throws. They really make it feel more welcoming and just makes anyone want to sit in that corner.

The wallpaper is really pretty.

Too sunny!!

It runs along the main wall in my room.

To the right of the sofa is my bed and wardrobe.

I'm still in love with my quilt.

And my orchid.

I picked up these candle holders on sale in a garden center a few years back. They look slightly Moroccan in style so I had to have them. You never know where you will find treasure these days.

Opposite my wardrobe is my work desk/craft area.

The yellow storage drawers were given to me. It's perfect for keeping felt in.

I love the pop of colour and the fact that the paint is lightly chipped.

Inspiration

Lastly more hearts! These are on the window seal in my hallway.

I don't know if you noticed but I love hearts! There are probably too many in one room, but my plan is that when we get our own place they will be spread throughout the property so it wont look so bad....right?!

So there you have it. I hope you liked it!

Happy Friday,

Gemma xxx

P.s - I had my second driving lesson today and went onto main roads. I held my breath and just went for it. Thank you for all your encouragement!
