Pinterest Recipe : Gooey Brownie/Cake In Mug

Today I thought i'd share a recipe with you that I came across on Pinterest. I've tried many 'cake in a mug' recipes before. They are meant to be perfect for when you've had a sudden urge for something sweet, but to be honest they've all been revolting. I regret making them instantly and they go straight in the bin. However for some reason, if I come across a new recipe i'll give it a go, and I'm so glad I tried this one.

The search is over!

It's a keeper!

Two minute mug brownie - Adapted from - Source

You'll Need:

1/4 cup plain/ all purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 Tbsp mild vegetable oil or melted butter
2 Tbsp milk or water

In your heatproof mug, mix all the dry ingredients together so there are as little lumps as possible. Make sure you get right to the bottom. Then add your wet ingredients, mix so you get a yummy chocolaty paste. Again make sure no dry ingredients have been left out at the bottom of your mug. At this point you can add some chocolate chips, whatever takes your fancy.

Microwave on high for 30 seconds at a time. Each microwave varies. I find that after a minute mine is done to how I like it. It's cakey on top with a gooey brownie mixture underneath. If you want pure cake carry on for another 30 seconds until it's how you like it. Just make sure it doesn't get that burnt smell!

---------------

Eat warm. I sometimes add a scoop of vanilla ice cream..oh it's sooo good! Hot and cold go together so well sometimes. This is perfect for sharing and is fairly rich so I like to snuggle on a chilly evening with Ian and share it with him.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

  3. I've tried this a few times and it always turns out delicious! Other recipes are dry and not chocolaty enough, but this is perfect.

  4. This is the only chocolate mug brownie/cake I eat. I have thrown away so many of these late night concoctions that I gave up trying for a while but I am so glad I found this one! The trick is to not overcook it, leave it rather gooey and doughy

  5. I followed this recipe exactly, using butter and water. It was gross. Pasty and nowhere near sweet enough. Basically tasted like cocoa flavored flour. Not at all like a cake or brownie!

  8. GENUINELY THE BEST MUG CAKE!!!! I've made atleast 10 different chocolate mug cakes over the past few years to satisfy that craving, and never have I enjoyed and been fully satisfied by one until now! This is basically a brownie in a mug, it's not dry or flavourless, it's gooey and flavourful! :D I have saved this recipe and will use it every time I crave a quick microwave chocolate fix :) thanks for posting this!

  9. By the way, I used butter and milk :) think this made it as enjoyable as it was

  10. I tried it but the wet ingredients weren't 'wet' enought to make it a nice paste. so I added an egg and that worked, nice brownie!

  11. A tablespoon or so of leftover coffee wouldn't be out of place in the mix. Nor would a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Or, for the adventurous sorts like me, a couple of dashes of cayenne and cinnamon for a Mexican-accented version.

  12. I just had my treat with a little glass of milk. Yummy. I might sprinkle in a little baking powder next time. Coffee or cayenne sound like great additions.

  13. I just tried it! I used butter and milk, and I have to say I loved it!!!! I tried it with and without the vanilla ice cream, both of them were delicious!! My boyfriend also loved this, which is very weird, because he's REALLY not one for sweet stuff... Thanks so much for sharing this! :)
