Positive Monday #2

Sourced via pinterest

Hi Guys,

Happy Monday! Didn't it go way too fast? I woke up this morning thinking it was a Sunday. I hate it when that happens.

For those of you who might not of read last weeks post, every Monday i'm going to blog about the small but great things that happened over my weekend. Just a little reminder of the good things.

Five small but positive things from the weekend:

* Having an empty house all to ourselves on Friday evening.

* Making fresh french bread on Saturday morning. THAT smell!!

* Spending some time with my Grandparents and taking a walk with them.

* Watching the thunderstorms from the comfort of home.

* Having a freshly redecorated bedroom.

I had some lovely feedback from some of you last week, so feel free to join in on your own blog! Let me know if you do so I can read all about it : )

Nivea In-Shower Body Moisturiser

Image sourced via Nivea.co.uk

I came across this new product recently which I have fallen in love with.

I am a lazy moisturiser..i'll admit it. I really dislike that icky clothes sticking to you feeling after you moisturise. I tend to skip doing it and my mum always says i'll pay for it when I am older! I guess she is right.

I wasn't sure at first if the In-Shower Moisturiser would work but I was really wrong! It is so easy to use. You rub it all over your body like you would do normally (but in the shower!), you rinse and then you pat yourself dry once your out of the shower.

It takes seconds to use and you get that lovely smooth feeling all over. It's not sticky in the slightest. A few hours later I could still feel the softness. I'm hoping to be super soft all the time now!

This isn't a sponsored blog post, it's just a product which I really love and wanted to share it with you all.

You can find either the normal or dry skin In-Shower Moisturiser in Boots for £2.37. Have you tried this yet? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments section below!

Positive Monday #1

Sourced via google

Hi guys!

Every Monday I feel a little down. The weekend is over, it goes so fast and the next one seems a long way off. Sometimes I feel that we didn't get up to much when in reality we did. So to give myself a little reminder of the good things that happened over my weekend I thought I'd post 5 small but happy things that happened on my blog on Mondays.

Five small but positive things from the weekend:

*Yummy salmon and cream cheese bagels for breakfast on Saturday morning.

*Spending time with my little brother around the bonfire and realising how much he is growing up.

*Having a hot shower that night and getting into a clean bed. Ahh! The best feeling!

*Early morning cuddles with Ian.

* Picking our home grown Raspberries in the garden.

So there you have it. Feel free to join in with this on your blog and make sure you let me know so we can link up! How was your weekend? Did you get up to much? Please leave a comment below and let me know!

My First 10 days of the Shred!

Hi guys,

If you follow me on Twitter you'll know that I've been attempting the 30 day shred AGAIN. I started it last year but failed miserably but this time I will be doing all 30 days. So far i'm on day 10. I keep telling myself  "I can, I will!"....

I'm terrible at sticking to any kind of diet or health kick regime. I know this might sound like an excuse but I think until we get our own place I wont have a 100% influence on what i'm eating. My diet hasn't really changed at all these past 10 days but I have felt a huge change in my energy levels.

I'm not going to lie, it is very hard to begin with. One minute your on the floor and next your doing jumping jacks. For me I am struggling with the cardio but it is getting easier (although this heat has made it a big struggle). After the work out is complete I feel amazing! It instantly wakes me up and I feel really good about myself. I mean no one regrets a workout once they've completed it do they?

Looks wise I feel I look a little more toned on my thighs and stomach, but so far there isn't a dramatic difference. I guess as my eating habits haven't changed that plays a big part in it. I am not weighing myself as others have mentioned what you lose in fat you gain in muscle. I do have some measurements of myself from a few weeks ago so that will be interesting to compare. Fingers crossed I will see more changes in myself physically once I start level 2, which btw...I feel so nervous about! I wonder how hard it's going to be?

Have any of you attempted the dreaded '30 day shred'? Did you see a big difference in yourself? Please leave a comment below and tell me your thoughts on it!

Just a teeny tiny post to share my sweet peas with you. They are something I love to grow alongside the vegetables. I adore the smell of them! My mum on the other hand really dislikes the smell (she says it reminds her of cat wee!). I decided to keep them outside by popping them in some jars and putting them on the garden table. I have to admit I secretly prefer them out there too, it really looks lovely!

Do you like to grow Sweetpeas or do you think they smell of wee too? I’d love to know what YOU think. Please leave a comment.

The best healthy summer dinner recipe!

Here are the recipes for the yummy picnic we had last weekend. I had been wanting to make both of these for a long time but never got around to it. The picnic was a perfect opportunity and best of all you can make both ahead of time. The flavours just get better when left for a few hours!

Caramelised Chicken. Source via pinterest

  • 4 chicken pieces (thigh or wing etc)
  • 1 and a bit tablespoons of Olive oil (I'm not that precise when cooking!)
  • 1/2 cup of runny honey
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 and a bit tablespoons of Ketchup
  • 1/3 cup of soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Mix all of the ingredients together and marinade your chicken for a few hours. Cook at 180c for about an hour or until the skin has gone all crispy and caramelised (just make sure your chicken is cooked thoroughly!). They are good served hot or cold. I found it to be slightly too salty so I may leave out the salt next time.

Coriander Corn Salad. Source via the driveway of life blog

Serves 3-4

  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 small lime
  • 1 red pepper
  • Half a bunch of coriander cut up small
  • 1 can of drained sweetcorn (or a few if your using a smaller can)
  • Mini Tomatoes cut in half
  • 1/3 cup of olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
Chop up your red pepper, red onion into small cubes. Add your halved mini tomatoes, sweetcorn and chopped up coriander. Squeeze your lime over your ingredients, drizzle your olive oil and add your salt and pepper. Stir to mix all the flavours and leave to infuse for two hours plus. The flavours settle down and mingle nicely and it will taste AMAZING!

I hope you enjoy these two recipes. I have to admit i'm not a huge fan of a leafy salad, so i'll be eating a lot more of the corn salad. I love the texture of it. It's also fairly cheap to make. We managed to get the lime for 24p and a small red onion for 8p from Asda. The coriander was 70p-80p and the rest of the ingredients we already had.

Let me know if you happen to try these : )

A Picnic In The Garden

As the weather is continuing to be glorious, we decided we'd have a picnic over the weekend.

We gathered lots of ingredients and prepared them on Friday night. The following morning, we packed up ready to go but then decided it was actually way too hot to get in the car and trapes around a busy park trying to find a spot a shaded spot. So instead we stuck to the back garden.

It was lovely and quiet. No one disturbed us. We had pillows and blankets, access to a clean toilet whenever we wanted and unlimited drinks! Sometimes staying at home on a hot day is the best idea.

Ollie decided to join us in Ian's garden. He's such a cutie but he can be such a handful at times. He would lay down asleep one minute and be a little rascal the next. At one point he tipped up his water bowl and got drenched, then decided to charge at us, so we ended up very wet too! lol

After we took him back home we got our yummy food out. Caramelised Chicken with a Corn Salad (I'll post these recipes on my blog on Wednesday).

They were both delicious and a great combo! After this photo was taken a swarm of flies decided to join us too... Luckily they didn't land on the food but it wasn't the most relaxing picnic i've ever had. Flies are horrible aren't they?? We must of looked so weird waving our hands around shooing them away...

After we ate we had a lie down on some cushions and just watched the clouds go by...

We love to play a little game where we say what we think each cloud looks like. It sounds silly but it is fun! It's funny how we both see the same things in some clouds but something completely different in others.

I can see a shark in this cloud? Can you?
The rest of the weekend pretty much consisted of this. Relaxing in the sun/shade, swatting flies and eating yummy food!

The rest of the week is set to be just as hot..around 30c! I really wish on days like these that we had a swimming pool..if only! It is lovely to be able to wear dresses without tights but I do prefer my Autumn clothes and feeling cosy.

In the summertime...

I just thought i'd share a few snaps from my Instagram on here from over the weekend. I should really start using my proper camera a little more!

1. Raspberries from the garden. I'm freezing them little by little so I will eventually have enough to bake something out of them!

2. Relaxing in the garden on a boiling summers day! I love looking at the sky when it's so blue.

3. Scoffing some yummy banana bread my future MIL made. So good!

4. Walking Ollie over some fields whilst my brother was at his cricket practice.

5. The Paella we made over the weekend. It was so good!

6. Hot dog!

7. My favourite Fanta summer drink. I love it!

8. Sitting in the sun.

9. Relaxing in bed feeling a little grumpy!

How are you finding this little heat wave we are having? I am loving it but it's too much when your carrying on with your day to day chores. This weather brings back memories of being in Florida sitting by the pool. If only!

Paella In The Garden

I took part in Money Supermarkets 'Big Night In' challenge. You can end up spending a lot of money going out these days, so Money Supermarket asked bloggers to show how they would spend £50 on a big night in!

I decided to spend my £50 on an outdoor dinner party with my family. As the weather was perfect for something a little continental I planned on cooking Paella. Our Paella contained many ingredients...chicken, pancetta, squid, mussels, prawns and cod to name a few.

We all sat around our table outside in the sunshine whilst me and my dad worked together to cook this wonderful dish. We had this huge paella dish previously..it's great to put on the BBQ!

On top of the ingredients for our dinner I bought some drinks...A must have for a hot summers day!

Ollie enjoyed our little party too! So much so that he was shattered halfway through.

After a long wait we finally got to eat. We ate our Paella with a big hunk of Ciabatta bread...so good!

It was so yummy!

Afterwards was the surprise dessert. Profiteroles and chocolate dipped fruit.

We had a great evening !

Here are some of my tips for a great night in:

* Takeaways are an easy option but they can be so pricey! Why not go to your local supermarket and buy a pizza from there fresh counter? It's much cheaper and much healthier!

* Look out for deals. Buy drinks and snacks when you see them and save them for your next night in.

* Play some games! The wii is so much fun for kids or adults. A good old classic card game is great too.

* Invest a little money in a film subscription. You will be able to rent months worth of films for the price of a few trips to the cinema! It's such a better way to watch movies!

Let me know what you do to have a good night in at home?

Weekend plans

I had fun last weekend playing with my new Tala Icing Pen*. I managed to bake some yummy lemon shortbread biscuits early on Sunday morning to along to my brothers cricket lesson. At first it was great to use and I had lots of fun with it. As you can see I wasn't very good at it.... heehee! When I had to refill it with more icing it began to get really sticky. I think when you pull the plunger back up, it brings up the left over residue icing and then it spills over the side. I then got terribly sticky and the fun was over.

Anyway if you fancy having a go at making some yummy buttery lemon shortbread, here is the recipe. It's easy to make as you do it in a blender and there is no putting the dough in the fridge to firm up...win win!

I'm feeling really excited for this weekend. It's mean to be really hot these upcoming days, up to 28c here on Sunday!! We are having lasagne tonight which is one of my favourites! Tomorrow I am popping into town to buy some birthday presents for my mum ...then I'm planning a family dinner for Saturday evening. I'm going to start looking on pinterest for some ways to pretty up the garden for it. Fingers crossed we've got some spare fairy lights around.  Apart from that my plans will consist of lazing in the sun and drinking some refreshing cider whilst doing some reading. Ahhh!

What are your plans? Do you like to be out and about in the hot weather? Or do you like to simply laze at home and keep cool? I'd love to know!

I hope you have a lovely weekend. Remember your sun cream!

Mini Haul

Over the past weekend we did a little shopping. As you know Ian and I are putting as much money away as we can into our savings for a house. Most of the time we are really good but now and then we do treat ourselves.

We popped into John Lewis to look at what was on offer in their sale. We are that kind of couple that love to buy bits for our future home, so when we saw these sweet Christmas bowls we couldn't say no!

They were hidden away at the bottom of a shelf so you really must look high and low for bargains. The bigger bowls were £1 each. They would be perfect for nibbles on a cosy winters evening in.

The little bowls were also £1. I thought they should of been reduced further because of it's size, but Ian still wanted them (he loves home stuff... it's something I adore about him!). These don't have any mention of Christmas on them so they can be used throughout the year. Ian thought they'd be great to organise ingredients when before starting to cook dinner.

I also made a cheeky purchase in Boots! They had an offer on the make-up so I ended up with some new lippy and some nail polish.

What do you think of my purchases?
