A Lovely Village Fayre...

First of all I just wanted to remind you of a yummy cookie recipe I blogged about earlier this week. Take a peek if you missed it..they are so worth making this weekend if you fancy something sweet!

---------------------------

Just a little post about our trip to the annual fair in Denham Village. If you are a new reader, Denham fayre is something my mum has been going to since she was 4, so as a family we've been going for a long time! I love traditions like that.

It was a lovely sunny day, usually it is cold and wet! We took a slow walk up and down the lane and looked at each stall. Last year I managed to buy a gorgeous Vase but this year there wasn't anything that caught my eye.

Sometimes it's lovely just to go and look at the beautiful houses.... It would be a dream come true to live somewhere like there. Utterly Gorgeous!

Have a great weekend,

Future house??

Since I've been doing my Interior Design course I have been looking around my bedroom, itching to change things. New readers should know I am still living at home with my parents whilst we save for a deposit, so my bedroom is the only room I can play with!

As we are saving up there is not much point in me redecorating, but one thing that is bugging me is my windows. My bedroom is the loft room, I have got two VELUX® windows but when the final touches were added no one ever got around to getting the proper blinds for them. It seems to be quite common that the blinds are forgotten about - Ian's loft bedroom is the same! He even tried to bodge it and make some himself...it was a bit of a failure I should add! I've been looking at them on the VELUX shop website.

One that did catch my eye....White Spring Roller Blinds from VELUX

VELUX have a huge range of blinds to choose from. From electric to manual blinds, energy saving to black out blinds, plus lots of colours and patterns to choose, it will be hard to make a choice!

You know I really can't wait know what kind of house we will have. Will it be a new build or something with a little more character? Will it be large and airy or small but cosy? It's a little frustrating to think about as we literally have no idea where we'll end up, but until then I can let my creative juices flow through Pinterest. I have lots of boards on there, my favourite is my 'For the Home' board. I hadn't looked at my board properly until recently. I had just pinned randomly before but now i''ve looked at it properly I can see what kind of style I like, so I thought I'd share it here.

I've noticed I like rooms with 'Cool' colours. Neautral whites, beige and greys mixed with light blues and pinks.

Lots of soft furnishings. Comfy sofas and plump cushions. Possibly a nice open fire.

I would love to have a large country style kitchen with an island. This picture makes me feel so relaxed. It's open, it's airy and it's so light!

I would love to get baking in this kitchen!

It will be interesting to see if my style remains the same or changes by the time we actually buy a house. We shall see!

Do you have a Pinterest account? I'd love to follow you! I'm Gemma_gld on there if you wish to follow me too.

Meet Ollie

So we were kept extremely busy this weekend by a little puppy called Ollie.

My parents were originally looking into rescuing a young lab but unfortunately it fell through. I thought that was that and left it.

Later on Saturday afternoon I got a call from my dad saying they were on their way to pick up a puppy! I couldn't believe it.

I was shocked.
I wasn't ready.
I was panicking a little.
I was really nervous and anxious.
I cried. I cried because I missed Jasper and I felt it was too rushed after Jasper died.

Any girl would be giddy with excitement at the thought of a puppy but I felt guilt. I felt like my family were trying to 'replace' him, but nothing could ever replace him. He was an amazing dog. I took to Instagram to vent and got a few responses from some wonderful women that made me feel lots better. I couldn't stop my parents from getting another dog, it wasn't up to me. All I can do is enjoy this new dog and remember Jasper. Jasper is gone for good but a new puppy will keep his memory alive...

So a while later they pulled up with this little bundle of joy...

His name is Ollie and he is 11 weeks old.

So far he has been such a sweetie but a rascal! He is into everything. Sniffing, nipping and trying to chew anything in his sight. We've had to 'puppy proof' everything, but day by day he's getting better.

Everything he does reminds me of Jasper and it's bringing back memories I forgot I had of him. I know at first I was reluctant but now i'm getting a little used to having this softie around. Let's just hope he will become a good boy like Jasper was!

My Makes

Hello!

How are you? How was your long weekend? We had a great weekend where we were kept VERY busy, but I will be blogging about that tomorrow. So you'll have to find out then...

I don't really like to promote my business on my blog but I guess I should. Surely that's one of the plus points of owning a blog? So if you are a new reader, you should know that I design, I sew and I sell my makes. My link is on the side if you fancy having a proper nose (do you like the spin on my name?). I've been working on a few new bits and pieces recently but the bulk of my orders are always the good old favourites. Hearts, stars and anchors seem to be very popular all year around.

New readers should also know that i’m doing an Interior Design course! I’m really enjoying it. I’m learning much more than I thought I would, and I find myself thinking about what i’ve learnt when I look around, inside and outside. I really can’t wait for us to get our own place so I can start to design and turn them into real life rooms. It’s all very exciting!

Something that I find I am struggling with is advertising. As my business is online, I’m always looking out to advertise on other blogs and websites...if you know of any blogs that advertise please do let me know! I’d like to start selling more ‘in real life’ so to say. It would be great to meet up with customers and discuss designs and fabrics and create them customised pieces for their home. I thought advertising offline would be a pain but i've since come across a service called Royal Mail door to door. They print and distribute your leaflets door to door which helps small businesses like mine reach a wider offline customer base, so that is definitely something worth looking into!

I've had a bit more practice recently with 'real life' customers through Ian's aunt. She's been redecorating her house and asked me to make her some customised cushions with some lovely materials from John Lewis. I was so nervous to present them to her but she loves them so that was a huge relief!

Anyway I hope your enjoying your day so far,

Chewy Chocolate and Smarty Cookies!

This cookie recipe was shared with me on Instagram, so I thought i'd share it with you too. If it's your recipe then please let me know as I'd love to give you recognition for it! They are delish!

It's a really yummy cookie, which turns out chewy in the center with a crispy edge. The trick with these cookies is to take them out of the oven when the middle is still a little soft. The recipe calls for just chocolate chips but we love to put in half chocolate chips and half smarties. They are a big hit!

You'll need:

125g of soft unsalted butter
100g light brown sugar
125g caster sugar
1 egg lightly beaten
1 tsp Vanilla
225 self raising flour
1/2 tsp salt
100g choco chips
100g Smarties

Pre-heat your oven to 180c and grease your baking tray.

Cream together your sugars and butter. Add the egg and vanilla, stir, add your flour and salt. Finally add your chocolate chips and your broken Smarties. Shape into balls and bake for 7-10 minutes or until lightly golden in colour and still a little soft in the middle.

-------------------------------

I'm so happy that it's a long weekend. Ian has been revising all week and has had exams so it will be nice to relax with him a little. The weather is meant to be sunny so i'm hoping we can fit in a BBQ or two and a bonfire in the evening. I'm hoping for lots of time in the garden with an iced drink or two.

My parents may have found a young Lab to rescue so they might be getting him this weekend...Scary! I'm not sure how I feel about it all really. For me, it's waaay too soon since Jasper passed away but at the same time this dog needs a good home and we have lots of love to give. We'll shall see...

Have a great weekend.

In the Spring garden...

This past weekend we spent a lot of time in the garden. We are at that time of year again where I don't actually like vegetable gardening. You see we had to 'thin out' our Carrots and Parsnips, picking out the weaklings and leaving the stronger larger seedlings to continue to grow. To me it seems like a huge waste but hey-ho, that's part of it all I guess.

We pulled up our Leeks, they aren't very big! I'm not quite sure where we are going wrong. Some of them were still pencil thin?

This year we decided to grow less vegetables so there is more space for the ones that we do plant to grow properly. I think when we first started we got a *little* too excited and tried to cram in as much as we could. We learnt in the long run that a Parsnip will not grow that big if they are too close together.

We've also learnt that not everything will turn out well. We've struggled to grow broccoli, sweetcorn and cabbage etc in the past, so we decided to dedicate the space to more straight forward vegetables like peas and courgettes.

Our moody cat being nosey!
We have been noticing a little visitor in one of our bird boxes. We saw it a few weeks ago with something in it's mouth but didn't realise it was actually building a nest! So exciting!

I used the zoom on my camera to catch her face, so sweet!
My mum found this feeder on sale on Homebase, since we put it up the birds have been loving it!

That's about it as far as the garden update goes. I can't wait to start hearing the baby Robins chirping! So are you growing any vegetables? What easy/straight forward veg can you suggest?

Trying to move on...

Happy Monday...

Thank you for everyone who has messaged or left a comment for me about Jasper. We are starting to feel a little better about it all. It still feels weird him not being around, it's the little things that are hitting me hard.

We have spent lots of time reminiscing and telling funny stories of things we remember Jasper doing. One story which sticks out in my mind was when we were taking him for a walk around the streets one evening, Ian needed something from him car so opened the passenger door and leaned over. Jasper must of got a little excited thinking we were going to drive to the park, so he randomly jumped onto the passenger seat and climbed across to the drivers side, whilst Ian was still reaching for whatever it was. So random! It made us all laugh though.

We are all dealing with his passing differently. Mum and Dad of course upset but are already talking about getting another dog one day. It would most likely be a Labrador as they are such a lovely breed. They've also been searching online for young rescue lab's on the Battersea dogs home website. I would like for them to get another dog but I feel like it’s too soon for me to even start thinking of another one. I just feel like that would be cheating on Jasper?

My young brother Alex has taken it the hardest, as he up with Jasper and can't really remember a time without him. He hasn't been eating that well since, we are hoping it will get better in time. We've been trying to distract him a little. He's always been a football fan so we're trying to get him into those Royal Mail Football Heroes. He loves to collect things so hopefully it will give him something to focus on in the mean time.

Jasper

We sadly had to say goodbye to our big old puppy Jasper this Wednesday. He was diagnosed with Leukemia a few weeks ago, so we knew our time with him was limited. At the beginning of the week we began to see signs of him deteriorating. With him at his worst on Wednesday, we phoned the vets in the morning to arrange him to go and to be put to sleep. His appointment was that evening. He didn't make it to the vet and sadly passed away at home that afternoon.

We are absolutely heartbroken. We all miss him so much, he was such a lovely boy. All I want to do is give him a big cuddle and a kiss right now. I keep forgetting that he is gone. I keep hearing little noises thinking he is going to come bounding in the room.

I'm trying to think positively about it all. Jasper detested the vets, so for him to slip away in the comfort of his home was the best for him. He is no longer suffering and is at peace. We love you Jasper. I'll always remember you. Rest in peace Jiggy.

* I say puppy, he was nearly 9. He always had such a puppy face, so he will always be my puppy dog.

My New Plant

My nan gave me this Aloe Vera plant for my bathroom recently. I have to admit it's not the most attractive of indoor plants but I've read it has many health benefits, including that it purifies the air quality.

I had a look around to see if I could nab a spare plant pot from my parents, but they were either way too small or too big. You see i've always been an outdoor plant kind of girl so I've never bought my own indoor plant pots before. I wanted something pretty yet simple. I had a look on the high street but they didn't come up trumps as per usual, so I had a quick look online. After a lot of surfing, I found these beautiful second hand tin pots. I managed to get them at £3.50 for all three, so I snapped them up instantly! Do you like them?

I've never really ordered anything big before online but the seller assured me and happily sent it to me through the courier Parcelforce. It was delivered to my doorstep in perfect condition a day or so later. I was chuffed! You wouldn’t know they were second hand! They barely look used. These pots were exactly what I had in mind and added a little touch of shabby chic to my bathroom.

I'm loving galvanised tins at the moment. I’ve seen a lot of them on Pinterest in the wedding section. Hopefully we can use these pots as part of the decor for our own wedding.

A little update:  We are still saving every penny for our deposit for our one day home. It’s so hard at the moment because all I want to do is start planning our big day, but it is more important to both of us to get our own place before we book a date for it.

London

A weekend or so ago we spent the day in London. As a belated birthday present to Ian, his parents paid for us all to do a boat tour down the Thames! It's something i've never done before so I was really excited to see the sights from a different angle.

We arrived around lunchtime so went to a little cafe by the Savoy hotel on Embankment. It was absolutely gorgeous as all the spring flowers were out.

The colours were absolutely amazing!

Soon after it was our time to go on the Rib boat. The weather wasn't all that great so we bundled up in our hats and coats, plus a life jacket just in case.

First of all we started off slow with the guide telling us all about the different sights.

Then, once we went under London Bridge, the fun really began. We sped down the Thames at 70mph whilst the driver twisted and turned and tilted the boat (like in the James Bond films!).

We got a good splash or two in the face from the water (Yuk! I hate to imagine what's actually in that water) but it was so much fun. We reached the Thames Barrier, turned around, and sped back down again to Embankment with James Bond music blaring from the Boats stereo. So much fun!

As i've mentioned before, we only live on the outskirts of London with a 40 minute tube ride into the center. We don't go that often but when we do we have a great time. We really should make the most of living so close to it.

I hope your having a great weekend so far!
