Ollie Update

I thought today I'd do a little update on Ollie the puppy. He has certainly kept us busy! Here is a little update from the pup himself ; ) ......

These past few weeks have flown by! I have grown quite a lot, my bed doesn't seem so big and scary anymore. I can now go down the decking steps all by myself without help, sometimes I just jump down all three of them without a care! I'm  also getting very heavy, I don't think i'll be able to have cuddles for much longer.

I love to investigate absolutely everything. One day when I thought no one was looking I made a run up the stairs and hid under someones bed. I didn't want to come out..i'm a stubborn boy you know!

One of my favourite things to do is annoy the cat. At first I just wanted to play but now I love to just bark at the cat and annoy him as much as I can. He doesn't seem to like me much... Everyone else hopes we can be friends one day.

I now go out for walkies! It's so much fun to see and smell new things. I get distracted very easily by anything that passes by. I just stop and stare at cars that drive by. I even tried to chase a petal the other day!

Anyway, I'm off to have a long snooze. I'll be back soon!

Goodbye GFC

Hello all!

I just wanted to drop by quickly to let you know i've created a Facebook page for this blog. I'm not sure if many of you know but Google Friends Connect (GFC - the thing on the sidebar that allows you to follow blogs) is closing down! You will no longer get notifications on new blog posts from me or any of your favourite bloggers. I have to admit i'm freaking out a little by it! I wondered how I will still follow the blogs I like to read and how anyone would remain following me.

So if you want to stick around here a little longer then please 'like' my facebook page. That way you will get notified by me when I post a new blog post. You can also follow me on Bloglovin', which is similar to GFC, it's free and easy to sign up to.

I hope you stick around!

A Barn Star and Retro Scales

I was completely thrilled to be given a favourite blogger award from Dotcomgiftshop. I was even more thrilled when they gave me the opportunity to review some bits from their shop! I have to admit this is probably the best brand I have worked with since I started blogging, I love absolutely everything in this shop! I know my readers would agree with me! Everything is so pretty!

I chose something pretty and something practical.

This barn star was something that stood out to me. It is made out of wood and has distress marks to make it look vintage. It will look so cute above a door or on a narrow wall. It could even sit on the mantlepiece and lean against the wall.  Best of all it will double up as a Christmas decoration!

I have to admit I hoped the star would be bigger. It is roughly the size of my hand so it isn't huge. I would love a bigger one! People who have left reviews on the website have said the same. Dotcomgiftshop please sell some larger ones, they'd sell like hotcakes!

I also received some red retro style scales. Aren't they gorgeous? I'm looking forward to having them on my worktop one day. The bowl is nice and big so it will allow me to make double batches of baked goods without having flour over spilling!

The scales come in different colours red, cream, pastel blue and pastel pink. For me it was between the cream or red, but I thought it's nice to have a pop of colour now and then, so red it was!

Please bookmark Dotcomgiftshop.com because it will come in handy one day when you are stuck for gift ideas for anyone! Be warned  - You will end up spending hours and hours drooling over everything!!

Thank you so much Dot com gift shop!

NB: I was sent these items to review for free, but all my opinions are my own.

June Garden Update

I just wanted to do a little update on how the garden is growing so far this year. It's nice for me to look back at past years on my blog and compare how well things are growing.

We have some salad, but it will need to be fairly bigger before we can pick them.

 A tree full of plums..

Lots of Raspberries. Raspberries can be so expensive so I really can't wait to eat them. I'm hoping to use them in some loaf cakes!

We have spring onions (for salads) and the mange tout is growing nicely. Mange Tout is really EASY  to grow.

We also have Carrots and some Parsnips. It's nice to pick these in the Autumn/Winter time and remember the balmy evenings spent watering them.

That's about it! We do have a few courgette plants but they are growing so slowly that I don't think we're going to get much out of them. It's a shame as they are a favourite of mine!

So my question for you today is do you grow your own fruit and vegetables? I've said it before on my blog, but it is SO SO satisfying eating something you've grown. In the past we've just used pots to grow a few carrots or a courgette plant, so you do not need much space.

Anyway I hope you are having a great Wednesday. It's been so hot humid and muggy here today. Everything is sticking to everything..Ha!It's not nice!

Soaring

Today I just wanted to share with you this sweet bracelet I bought recently.

I rarely treat myself to something new. I'm one of those people who is happy with what I have got, but on occasion I will spot something and then it will stay in my head until I buy it  (this has been referred to 'the wanties' by people over on IG!).

I saw this bracelet similar to this online from a shop in the US, but it was super pricey. On the off-chance I went onto Etsy, found this gorgeous bracelet which was fairly similar for a fraction of the price, and better yet it's handmade!

Do you like it?

I love how simple and symbolic it is.

You can find the Etsy shop called Minnie Grace (such a sweet name!) here if you are interested.

Pinterest Recipe : Gooey Brownie/Cake In Mug

Today I thought i'd share a recipe with you that I came across on Pinterest. I've tried many 'cake in a mug' recipes before. They are meant to be perfect for when you've had a sudden urge for something sweet, but to be honest they've all been revolting. I regret making them instantly and they go straight in the bin. However for some reason, if I come across a new recipe i'll give it a go, and I'm so glad I tried this one.

The search is over!

It's a keeper!

Two minute mug brownie - Adapted from - Source

You'll Need:

1/4 cup plain/ all purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 Tbsp mild vegetable oil or melted butter
2 Tbsp milk or water

In your heatproof mug, mix all the dry ingredients together so there are as little lumps as possible. Make sure you get right to the bottom. Then add your wet ingredients, mix so you get a yummy chocolaty paste. Again make sure no dry ingredients have been left out at the bottom of your mug. At this point you can add some chocolate chips, whatever takes your fancy.

Microwave on high for 30 seconds at a time. Each microwave varies. I find that after a minute mine is done to how I like it. It's cakey on top with a gooey brownie mixture underneath. If you want pure cake carry on for another 30 seconds until it's how you like it. Just make sure it doesn't get that burnt smell!

---------------

Eat warm. I sometimes add a scoop of vanilla ice cream..oh it's sooo good! Hot and cold go together so well sometimes. This is perfect for sharing and is fairly rich so I like to snuggle on a chilly evening with Ian and share it with him.

I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Are You Thinking Of Christmas Yet & A Review!

I was given the opportunity to review some baking bits from a company called The Craft Company. As you know I love to spend time in the kitchen baking, so I could hardly say no! I was allowed to choose items up to £10, so I picked out a cooling rack and some cookie cutters.

I'm quite an impatient person. One thing I dislike about online shopping is waiting for my goodies to be dispatched and delivered. It's the worst waiting for the postman isn't it? Well my order from The Craft Company came the next morning ...so major brownie points for that!

I decided to bake some cookies over the weekend and give the cutters and cooling rack a whirl. Something I loved about the cutters is how sturdy they are and the tin they come in. Others i've used get misshapen after a few uses and get lost among other things in the drawer, but this tin keeps them tidy and in one place. They are also made in England which was a nice little surprise!

The cooling rack was also a better quality than I expected it to be considering how much great value it is! It was lovely and wide so all my cookies could fit without piling on top of each other. The cooling rack is nice and slender so they are easy to store too.

Overall I am thoroughly impressed with my experience ordering with The Craft Company. I have nothing bad to say about the service I received and the products they sent me, so I happily recommend them for you to try!

If you fancy baking some of these cookies, you can find the recipe here. They are 'in theory' Christmas Cookies as they have a tiny hint of cinnamon but they are so good dipped in a steaming hot mug of Tea! Anyway who can resist the thought of Christmas in June?? Certainly not me! Are you thinking of Christmas yet? I know it's terrible but it's so cold here at the moment I can't help it!

A Bit Of InstaLove

Today I'm linking up with Alycia from the Crowley Party on her Tid & Bits blog posts. It's just a little post to share the random things that have been going on in life lately. Here's mine through my Instagram snaps...

1. Pub garden drinks on a Sunny day
2.Chocolate cake made by the future MIL. Yum!
3. Early morning tea after Ollie woke us up at 5am. Spot the sleep cat!
4. Pretty Alliums. One of my favourites.
5. BBQ time.
6. Strawberry milkshake. Don't mind if I do!
7. My first time trying strawberry cider. It was good!
8. Laying under a tree, looking up at the clouds.
9. Ollie. Such a sweetie bear!

So my photo's mostly seemed to be focused on food and drink...tsk tsk! You can follow me on @Gemma_gld on instagram if you'd like. Are you on instagram?

Happy Friday!

Summer Dresses

I got this in a soft blue colour but couldn't find a picture online!

I just wanted to share with you these two cute dresses I bought from H&M recently. I've come to realise my summer clothes are practically non-existent. I don't have many summery bits because I only really wear them for 2 or 3 months. Anyway everything is either too small (so much for that summer body!) or something I'd wear in Florida, so not exactly London summertime friendly.

I'd love to wear maxi dresses and skirts but i'm such a shortie that they swamp me. Instead, I opted for these casual dresses. I especially love the lace detail, it's so feminine!

They come up knee length on me so they are modest, and I managed to get both of them in store for under £15!

Where do you shop for your summertime essentials? Most shops sell such similar things I don't know where to start!

Mood Board

I'm coming to the end of my second exam for my Interior Design Course. Time is flying by so I've really started to get my butt into gear and crack on with the coursework! As part of my course I have to make sample boards, where you basically present fabrics, paint colours and any other materials to be used on a board to show clients how they all work together. To practice I've been asked to first of all make a few mood boards. They each represent two styles/moods. I'm hoping they are easy to guess....

What do you think? The Romantic one is definitely my favourite. I love all the soft pastel colours!

I thought making a sample board would be fairly easy but so far it seems that I am wrong! I've found it a struggle to find shops that give you/ send you free samples. After having a chat with a few people doing the same course as me, they suggested I should take a look on eBay. I hadn't thought to look there! I asked around and some sellers were more than happy to send me some free of charge fabric samples using eBay delivery, result!

So now I just have to print off some pictures of flooring and paint samples and then I can put it all together. I just hope it looks okay and not a mess! I'll try and get a photo of it before I send it off to my tutor.

------------------------------

How was your weekend? Mine was good but I was left feeling a little deflated.

The weather here wasn't as sunny and hot as we were promised it would be. I was so excited to spend lots of time outdoors, to have a potter in the garden, lay out on a blanket and read something or other. It ended up being so cloudy and windy so the sun was constantly popping in and out and the pages on my magazine were flapping around, it got quite cold and annoying! We did manage a quick BBQ and bonfire but it wasn't as I imagined it to be. I know it sounds stupid but I hate it when you imagine how fun and amazing something will be, but it's not! Do you ever feel like that?

I spent the rest of my time baking and playing with Ollie the puppy so it wasn't all that bad!
